What Do You Do For Stress Management?

"What do you do for stress management?” I asked, catching my builder friend by surprise. He had just finished explaining his work load- boasting about his busy schedule and overall lack of free time. I know my question caught him off guard- maybe it was slightly inappropriate? Regardless, I blurted out the question and my builder friend was forced to respond. After a brief moment of awkward silence, he finally replied and we went on to discuss the importance of stress management in our career fields.

You see, being self-employed in the construction industry is hard. The deadlines, the back orders, the expectations… All of it can be overwhelming, but it’s important for us to realize this:

Our mental health takes top priority.

It’s easy to put ourselves on the backburner. After all, society feeds off of our stress and a heavy work load. May is mental health awareness month and I want to challenge you to take time for yourself. Relax with the dogs. Enjoy mealtime with family. Go to therapy. Go to the movies. Take a walk. Eat a donut. Do what makes your mind happy and don’t sweat the small stuff! Life is too short!
