Forever In The Making

You could say my husband and I were destined. We grew up together on Richmond Avenue in Nicholasville, Kentucky, with only one house separating us. We played together as kids, flirted on the telephone as teenagers, but didn't venture into the dating world until our college years. In the summer of 2011, Chris and I ran into each other after many years of being apart. The chemistry was evident, and thankfully Chris asked me out, ending the phase of playing hard to get. After 4 years of dating, Chris asked to spend forever with me as his wife, and we recently celebrated our one year anniversary. Looking back on our lives and the ups and downs we've walked through together, we can clearly see God's plan and role in bringing us together. Carefully crafted and meticulously maintained, we were, in fact, forever in the making.

Much like a relationship, the art of flipping houses can feel like a forever-long process. After two short months of marriage, Chris and I were approached with an interesting investment opportunity. We had never desired "flipping" homes, nor did we ever dream of renovating or restoring property. However, in November of 2015, Chris and I found ourselves opening the front door to our first ever investment property: a rundown tri-level home on a beautiful 1 acre lot in one of Jessamine County's most desirable neighborhoods.

We were shocked and completely overwhelmed, to say the least. This was definitely not in our plan, nor was this a venture we knew anything about. Despite all of this, God knew exactly what He was doing, and our 3 month flip turned into a 6 month journey full of many life lessons. Along the way, Chris dedicated himself to learning everything he could about home restoration and, with the help of his father and broker, Chris successfully flipped an entire property for profit.

The point is, you never truly know your capabilities until God presents you with the opportunity. And even when the opportunity presents itself, it's normal to be terrified and shy away from trusting in Him. No flip is a walk in the park, and no challenge that God sets before you comes with the promise of an easy journey. However, we have learned the value in trusting God's plan in our lives, and we hope to share some of those lessons with you through this blog! We have been educated on how homes are constructed, but more importantly how homes can be reconstructed. Much like God's plan and our relationship, our homes are never fully finished and are always being refinedMaybe they're worn down, a little rough around the edges. Regardless of their current state, our homes are ultimately molded to fit our vision. In our coming posts, I hope to share what has inspired us to make our choices, as well as the big mistakes we've made along the way. Everything in this life is truly forever in the making, homes and property included!
